FAQ: Textbook Rentals

- GETTING STARTED -

What are the lengths of the 5 rental periods you offer?

We offer rental terms for any type of school term. The five rental periods we offer are 30 days, 45 days, 60 days, 90 days and 125 days. Your rental period does not start until your books are delivered.

How do I search for a textbook rental?

That’s easy. Go to our site and select your course from the Textbook Search Engine. Click on Search for textbooks. This will bring up a list of textbooks required/recommended for your course. If your book is available as a textbook rental it will be listed as an option here.

Are supplements included with the books?

Supplements are not guaranteed with any books, when you order a rental. Some publisher’s reference supplements in the title of the book, however, these supplements are also separate items and not guaranteed to come with your book.

Are there any membership fees?

No we do not charge any membership or subscription fees.

Do I get my money back when I return my rental?

Since you only pay for a fraction of the total book cost when you check out with your rental, no money is returned to your credit card once we get your rental back on time.

What condition do books come in?

All rental books are in good condition or better. Books may have some writing and highlighting, but nothing that interferes with readability.

Can I choose the quality of the book that I want?

Due to our dynamic inventory, we are unable to fulfill requests for specific book conditions. If you require a book be in new condition, please purchase a new copy of the book from the bookstore.

Is it cheaper to rent or buy used?

The prices for book rentals are listed in the drop down menu for easy comparison. The best option for you will be based on how long you need the book and how you plan to use it while in your possession. If you want to make a lot of notations and highlights in your book or keep it permanently, we suggest you purchase a used or new copy of the book you need.

Can I buy a used copy of the book I need?

If you see it listed as an option on our website, yes you can. Simply go to the Textbook Search Engine, select your course and click on search for textbooks. This will give you a list of the various options available for your book.

- CHECKOUT PROCESS -

What forms of payment can I use?

Currently, you must use a credit card to rent from us. We accept Mastercard, Visa, American Express and Discover symbol. You will specify your preferred method at checkout.

Why is my credit card being rejected?

Your credit card may be rejected for the following reasons – insufficient funds, incorrect CVV number, your billing address and card holder address do not match or the expiration date of the card is before the end of your rental period(s).

Why was my credit card charged a $1?

Anytime you place an order on our site, a $1 pre-authorisation is temporarily held on your card. This is done to ensure that the credit card is valid. The pre-authorisation is NOT a charge. In most cases the $1 hold is released by your financial institution within 3 to 5 business days.

Are orders charged in U.S. or Canadian dollars?

All orders are charged in Canadian dollars. The charge on your credit card statement will read "rentsbooks.com".

Will I be charged sales tax?

Maybe. Companies selling over the internet are subject to the same sales tax collection requirements as any other retailers. The amount of sales tax charged, if any, is primarily based on the shipping address of your order.

How does the ordering/shipping process work?

To order a book is easy. You can do it in the comfort of your room, from your smart phone or on one of the bookstore kiosks. Books are shipped to your “home” by our trusted partner “Follett Higher Education Group” and returned to the “Campus Bookstore”. You pay the inbound shipping charges and we pay the outbound.

What shipping methods are offered?

You can have your items shipped via Expedited or Express. Expedited shipments are delivered approximately 5-10 business days after order processing. Express orders are delivered approximately 3-4 days after order processing. The cost to expedite a shipment is 12.00 + 4.00 per additional title. The cost to express ship is 20.00 + 5.00 per additional title. We cannot ship to a PO Box.

Is your website secure?

Our trusted provider employs the latest physical, hardware and software protocols. All transactions on their site are protected by an enterprise grade firewall and 128 bit encryption. See our privacy policy for details.

- PLACED ORDERS -

How do I track my order?

All shipments have a tracking number, which provides the date and time of delivery or attempted delivery. To check the status of your shipment, visit our Rental Website, sign in, click: Account ->Recent Orders->Order History->Track Package.

Can I check my previous orders?

Yes, visit our Rental Website, sign in, click: my account -> Recent Orders will be displayed.

Can I cancel an order I’ve recently placed?

We make every effort to process and ship your order quickly. If you are not able to cancel your order online, simply bring your book to the Campus Bookstore and initiate a return.

It’s a few days past my delivery estimate, will I be getting my order soon?

Due to delivery estimates being approximations, your order may not get to you on the same date as your delivery estimate. If you haven’t received your order by your delivery estimate, do the following:

  1. Check the tracking number for your order by visiting our Rental Website, sign in, click Account->Recent Orders -> Track Package. If the tracking shows your order as delivered, check with your neighbors or the mail room, to see if someone signed for it. Also, check with your mail carrier and around your mailbox and/or front door to see if the order was left for you.
  2. See if your order is showing as being in a city nearby your shipping address. If it is, it’s likely that your order will be arriving soon. We ask that you wait 2 business days after your delivery estimate to give the shipper time to deliver your order.
  3. If you still unable to find your order, contact Customer Service at 888-398-1977 between the hours of 8am and 7pm.

Where will my order ship from?

Books ship from multiple warehouses across the USA. We do not know where your order will ship from, nor can we request that it leave from a specific location.

Where do I find my order’s estimated delivery date?

To find your order’s delivery estimate, click your Recent Orders. Your delivery estimate will show under the track shipment link.

How do I return a book for a refund?

Returns for a refund will be accepted up to 21 days after your order date. Returned items must be in the condition as sold. Return shipping will be free of charge and here are the steps to follow. Visit our Rental Website, sign in, and visit the Refunds Page. Select the book and the reason for refund. Generate a pre-paid shipping label and packing list. Pack the item securely, and bring it to the Campus Bookstore and we will ship it out for you. Shipping charges are not reimbursable for any item sent at your expense.

How will I receive a refund if I return an item?

A credit, minus shipping, will be applied to your original method of payment. If we have committed an error with your order, a full refund, including shipping will be issued.

When will I receive my refund?

Depending on your bank, your refund should be on your account within 24-72 hours after being credited.

If my return is a few days late, can I receive a partial credit?

We will not issue a partial credit for a late return. The book will be received as a rental return.

- USING BOOKS -

Can I write or highlight in my book?

Yes, acceptable amounts of writing and highlighting are allowed. See the “Terms and Conditions” for more information.

What happens if I lose my book?

As stated in our “Terms and Conditions”, you are responsible for returning the book at the end of your rental period. If you are unable to do so, you will be charged the buyout price of the book. Once you are charged, you opt out of the rental agreement and the book becomes your property.

What happens if my book is damaged during my rental period?

If your book is received and damaged beyond repair, you will be charged the buyout price and the book will be discarded. Damage includes missing pages, torn cover, loose binding, excessive highlighting or writing, detectable odor, water or other liquid spills. If you feel your book is damaged, do not return it. Simply buy the book to satisfy your rental agreement. Some damage can be repaired. If your book is returned with light damage to the cover, binding, or pages, you will be charged a $15 fee for repairs.

I didn’t get the book I ordered, what can I do?

If you receive an incorrect shipment, contact Customer Service at 888-398-1977 between 8am and 7pm and we will ship a replacement.

How do I calculate the due date of my rental?

Your rental period will begin on the date your order arrives. The ending date of your rental period can be calculated in two ways. 1) Add the number of days in your rental period to the date your order was delivered or 2) Log into your account and look at the due dates on your past orders.

If my rental return is in your possession before the scheduled due date, can I receive a partial refund?

Early rental returns will not be issued a partial refund. The book will be received as a rental return.

Can I get a discount if a book has significant wear and tear?

The books we rent and the used books we sell are in good condition or better, but the amount of wear and tear will vary from book to book. We do not offer any discounts on books that appear worn, but if you are unhappy with the quality of your book, you can choose to return it for a refund.

- END OF RENTAL PERIOD -

I need to keep my rental a few extra days. Can I extend my rental due date?

Yes! You can extend your rental for 14 days. There is no limit to the number of times you can extend your rental. Log into your account and access your “My Rentals” select the book you wish to extend; add the extension to your cart and checkout; submit payment and complete the extension. Your new rental due date can be found on the “My Rentals” page.

How will I be charged if I buy an extension?

When you extend or buyout your rental, you will be asked for credit card information at the end of the checkout process. The credit card you enter will be charged for the price of the extension buyout.

I’ve decided to keep my rental. Can I buy it?

Yes! Log into your account and follow these steps. Access the “My Rentals” page; select the book you wish to buy; add the book to your cart and checkout; submit payment and complete the order. When the book is purchased you have settled your rental agreement and do not have to return the item. Since the book is in your possession, you will not be charged any related shipping costs.

How do you set the buyout price for a rental?

The buyout price is the current list price minus the original rental cost and any extensions.

What if my rental due date is on a weekend or holiday. Does this affect the due date?

When a due date falls on a weekend or holiday, the rental will be due the next business day.

Will I be notified when you receive my return rental?

Yes! When your rental return is received, notification will be sent to the email address listed on your account.

If I am late returning my rental, will I be charged a late fee?

Yes. If your rental book is not returned to the Campus Bookstore on or before the due date, you rental due date will automatically be extended every 14 days until returned or until the current price of the book is met.

I accidently returned a book that was meant for someone else, can you return the book to me?

Contact customer service for immediate assistance at 888-398-1977 between 8am and 7pm.

My rental is due, how do I get it back to you?

Take your rental book to the customer service desk at the Campus Bookstore. The customer service representative will scan your book into the system and process it for you. The bookstore will take care of shipping your books back. There is no charge for this. Please remember to bring all your books to avoid any late fees. You will receive a confirmation email (to the address you have on file) stating your book has been returned.
